Candy Corn Craft | Door Hanger or Mantle Decor | DIY

…Do you hear the crickets chirping around here? We sure have! We have been crazy busy, ya know, back to school, life in general. Plus, we wish we had more time to just sit and craft! But Halloween’s coming, we have some great crafts for you that we will try to get up quickly!!

So tonight, we are bringing you a candy corn craft! We saw the idea on pinterest to buy, and although it was so cute (and we instantly fell in love with it), we knew we could make it a lot cheaper and make it right to our liking. Some things we did different from the original pin we saw was instead of paint, we decided to modge podge scrapbook paper on! We also decided to not turn ours into a door hanger, and put inside as decor. So here is the step by step and tips that worked for us!

Our first task was getting the candy corns cut out. I’m sure your local craft store would have cut outs, but we once again, utilized what we had. AKA the husband. We bought a big 8 ft board at Lowes and found a candy corn stencil online. We spent about $12 on the board, but we only used half the board for 4 candy corns! Our dimensions for the candy corn is 10 in (at the bottom of candy corn) by 14 in tall.

Now, onto the fun part! You need: letter, scrapbook paper, modge podge, white paint, black paint, and any embellishments you want to add.

Step One: Paint your sides and back of the candy corn. We all chose to do our edges/back white. Also at the same time, paint your letter. We got our cute letters at Hobby Lobby, but I also saw them at Michael’s! Some painted white, and some painted black! It’s just a personal preference!

Step Two: While your paint is drying, cut out your paper. We took our stencil that we cut out our wood with and cut it down into sections. If you buy your candy corn at a craft store, just trace the outline onto plain white paper and then you can make a stencil from that. Trace your layer on the back of your scrapbook paper so you don’t get pencil on the front. You don’t want to run all your hard work with pencil lines.

Step Three: Modge Podge scrapbook paper on.

Step Four:  Place your letter. We used Gorilla Glue to stick by putting small dots on the back of the letter all over.

And… you’re done! It was super easy! It took us about two hours from start to finish! We still have a few things to finish up, like adding embellishments and possibly wire to hang for us that want to hang them.. But we promise to update the post when we do that! 😉 And money wise, I betcha we spent under $10 a candy corn! Also, our sweet mother hasn’t made hers yet! So when she gets hers done, we will add! Don’t you love how different they all are?!
